Coverage We Help You Compare
Most of our work is individual health insurance and family health insurance, including ACA Marketplace plans that may qualify for a premium tax credit. We also place dental insurance, vision insurance and accident insurance, which sit alongside a medical plan and cover costs it leaves open. Each plan type has its own page with the details that matter for it, such as waiting periods on dental work or the fixed cash benefits on an accident policy.

Individual Health Insurance
Coverage for one person, compared across carriers by deductible, out-of-pocket maximum, network and drug formulary before you enroll.

Family Health Insurance
One plan for parents and kids, compared across carriers, with family deductibles, networks and pediatric benefits explained before you enroll.

ACA Marketplace Plans
We compare marketplace plans with your tax credit applied, check networks and drug lists, and explain your bills after you enroll.

Dental Insurance
Dental PPO and DHMO plans from multiple carriers, compared on waiting periods, annual maximums and whether your dentist is in network.

Vision Insurance
Stand-alone vision coverage for exams, frames, lenses and contacts, compared across carriers so you can see which allowances match the eyewear you actually buy.

Accident Insurance
Accident plans that pay you a set cash amount for covered injuries, with plain help understanding what the carrier will ask for before you ever need to file.

An Independent Agency in Dunedin
Private Health Insurance Dunedin works with people who buy their own coverage: the self-employed, early retirees not yet on other coverage, families between employer plans, and anyone whose job does not offer health benefits. We focus on health, dental, vision and accident insurance and nothing outside that.
Our approach is simple. We explain what a plan pays, what it does not, and how its claims process works, then let you decide. If a plan you are considering has a narrow network or a drug list that leaves out something you rely on, we say so before you enroll.

What Shapes Your Monthly Premium and What You Pay for Care
Health coverage costs you in two places: the monthly bill and the share you pay at each visit. A cheap premium often comes with a steep deductible, so we look at both at once. These are the things that move them.
We don't quote a figure until we have your ages, income, doctors and the kind of coverage you want. After that, we set real carrier rates side by side so you can see each trade-off.
- Who is on the plan and their ages
- On ACA-compliant plans, age is the main driver of each person's rate. A spouse or children raise the total, and family coverage has its own deductible and out-of-pocket limits.
- Your income and the premium tax credit
- For Marketplace plans, expected income and family size determine whether you receive a premium tax credit and, on silver plans, cost-sharing reductions that lower the deductible. Because the credit is reconciled when you file taxes, a careful income estimate counts.
- Metal tier and deductible
- Bronze, silver, gold and platinum each split costs their own way. Bronze usually means a lower premium with a higher deductible, while gold flips that.
- Network type
- An HMO typically requires a referral to see a specialist and covers almost nothing out of network. An EPO drops the referral but keeps you inside its network, and a PPO pays some of the cost for out-of-network care. The wider the network, the higher the premium tends to be.
- Tobacco use and location
- Tobacco users may pay a surcharge, and rates vary by Florida rating area.
- Add-on coverage
- Dental, vision and accident plans are each priced separately. Dental plans also carry yearly maximums and waiting periods that limit what they actually pay out.

Why Clients Work With Us
A health plan is a contract, and the costly details tend to be buried in the fine print. We go through it with you before you enroll and remain on call afterward.
- Many carriers on one page
- Being independent means no single insurer owns our loyalty. We put plans from several carriers on one sheet, so premium, deductible, copays and out-of-pocket maximum sit side by side and you don't have to jump between websites.
- We start with your doctors
- Before recommending anything, we search each carrier's network directory for the doctors and facilities you use now. An HMO or EPO that excludes your specialist can end up costing much more than its low premium implies, so we check this first.
- Honest help with claims
- If a bill or explanation of benefits doesn't match what you expected, we go through it with you line by line. We explain why a claim went toward your deductible, was treated as out of network, or was denied, and what the carrier's appeal process is. The final decision belongs to the carrier, and we'll be upfront about that.
- Free plan comparisons
- The carrier whose plan you choose pays us, so our review is free to you. Your monthly premium stays the same whether you enroll with us or directly through the carrier.
Common First Questions
- Do you charge anything to help me?
- No. We don't charge for the consultation; we're paid by the carrier whose plan you pick. Your premium matches what you'd pay enrolling with that carrier on your own.
- When can I sign up for health coverage?
- Each fall the Marketplace holds open enrollment, generally November 1 to January 15, and enrolling by mid-December starts coverage on January 1. The rest of the year, you need a qualifying life event like losing coverage through work, getting married, having or adopting a child, or moving, and these usually give you a 60-day special enrollment period. Dental, vision and accident plans can often be bought any time of year.
- Will you find out if my doctor takes a plan?
- Yes. We look up each doctor and facility you give us in the carrier's provider directory before suggesting a plan. Directories get updated, so it's still wise to call the office ahead of a scheduled visit.
- Is there any help with the monthly cost?
- That comes down to your projected income for the year and your family size. A lot of people buying their own coverage are eligible for a premium tax credit on a Marketplace plan. We estimate it together on the consultation and show you plan prices after the credit.
- What happens if a claim gets denied?
- We'll read the denial letter and explanation of benefits with you, tell you what the reason code means and take you through the carrier's internal appeal steps. The decision rests with the carrier, so we can't overturn it or promise a result. Still, knowing which records and forms the carrier needs tends to make the path clearer, so call us once the letter arrives.
- Do I have to come to your office?
- No. Many clients work with us entirely by phone or video, while others prefer sitting down at our office. Enrollment can be finished whichever way you choose.
- Why would I add dental or accident coverage?
- Adult medical plans usually don't include routine dental or vision care, and an accident policy pays fixed cash amounts you can put toward a deductible after an injury. Dental plans often have a waiting period before major work is covered, so when you buy matters. You'll find the details for each on its own page.
How a Consultation Goes
Pick whatever suits you: our office, a phone call or a video meeting. In most cases the first meeting wraps up in one sitting.
- 1
Tell us about your care
We learn who the coverage is for, what income you expect, which doctors you visit and what prescriptions you fill. That tells us which networks and drug lists to check.
- 2
See the plans together
Plans from several carriers go into matching columns for premium, deductible, coinsurance and out-of-pocket maximum, and we point out what you give up and gain with each.
- 3
Enroll when it suits you
Once you've chosen, we complete enrollment with you during open enrollment or a special enrollment period, and confirm when coverage starts and when your first premium is due.
- 4
Support after enrollment
Call us if a claim, ID card or bill doesn't look right. We help you understand the paperwork and get through to the carrier, though the carrier makes the final decision.

See Your Options Next to Each Other
